Welcome to the Blue Ocean Summit registration site! We hope to see you in August!
What is the Blue Ocean Summit?
We’re meeting more and more people, all over the West, who are sold that their experience of faith will work best in the “Blue Ocean,” where very few churches and church people “swim.” They’re seeing secular people around them explore and embrace faith even as their own faith is growing in ways they’d never anticipated.
This is our 5th annual Blue Ocean Summit and we look forward to exploring, in a number of surprising, fresh ways, what the substance of this faith is. In years past, the focus of the Summit has been on talking about “How do we connect the two worlds of faith and secular culture in which we live and love?” This year, rather than talking about it, we thought it would be fun to actually do it alongside accomplished secular culture-leaders.
So, on Tuesday we have an impressive line-up for you. We’re hoping to kick off the morning with a session with a secular, New-York-Times-bestselling author (one of whom's books was made into an Oscar-nominated movie).(Sadly I can't yet name him, because--though he's strongly said he wants to come--he's not yet confirmed.) In the afternoon we will have an in-depth look at a “Meaning in a Pub” style conversation about faith with Dave Schmelzer and Omar Sultan Haque (an Instructor at Harvard who studies the psychology of religion).
In addition to that, we've searched forever for a conversation-starter about how arts align with this connecting-the-worlds-of-faith-and-secularism hope that we have and we thought perhaps the best way to kick off this conversation would be with a picture or two: some updating about a Blue Ocean-inspired film studio one of you has put together, and a staged reading of Dave Schmelzer’s play “The Revolutionary" (produced in San Francisco, followed by some high-profile NYC readings) performed by some top-quality, largely-secular, Boston actors, after which we'll have an open discussion on the role of art in in the Blue Ocean.
And that’s just Tuesday. We'll also talk Blue Ocean theology and culture, how the Holy Spirit fits into the Blue Ocean world (and how we can experience the HS together right then), how the Bible can take on fresh life in these settings, and how inner healing plays a key part. And there will be breakout discussion groups and connections you'll form with like-minded people from many states, along with some fun extras.
Join us for what looks to be the most substantive, visionary and connection-rich Summit yet!
